I notice how fragile the status quo is here tonight. I am privileged to be a passer by, an observer – to just stand by and watch. At first, a quiet peaceful town at the foot of the mountains and wilderness if you want it. However a closer look reveals disquiet. A building across the street a woman is screaming at her neighbours. I do not bother to find out what the argument is about. I hop on the bike to have a beer and get some food and native American kids brawling openly on the street. I did not manage to get the full punch up on camera but caught some of the posturing after the event.

At almost the same time, in a huge sports bar, a woman wolfs back pizza and a bored couple sitting next to me sit for the whole meal without smiling or saying a word.

It reminds me how difficult small towns are to live in. It also troubles me how Canada is struggling to adjust to find a happy identity. Huge baseball and hockey posters, beer logos do not do it.
